A wide range of online recipes can be found, but they are generally the same. In addition, date paste can be used as a substitute for other sweeteners. You can use date paste in recipes that call for maple syrup or honey. This is due, in part, to the fact that each cup of syrup or honey is divided by 2 tablespoons of date paste. There is no one definitive answer to this question as the method for turning dates into liquids will vary depending on the recipe or application. No matter which method you choose, turning dates into liquids is a quick and easy way to add sweetness and flavor to a variety of dishes.
Buy the canes from your favorite farm stand and wash them thoroughly to remove any field debris. Use a rolling pin to create a mangle, and roll the canes until no more sugar water comes out of them. Sugar is a household staple, thanks to its many uses. It’s a core ingredient in baking, sweetens up a cup of tea and can even exfoliate your skin in a DIY scrub. However, excessive salt or sugar consumption can lead to heart disease. It is best to use a salt or sugar shaker if you want to prevent your food from getting too salty or sweet. To make pink sugar for cocktails, first mix together equal parts granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan. Then, add a few drops of pink food coloring and stir until the sugar is evenly tinted. Next, heat the mixture over low heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and let it cool completely.

Mix together sugar and water in a sauce pan to make this simple coffee syrup that will store on your shelf for weeks. During longer boils add water as necessary to prevent burning. Invert sugar can be added right to the boil, or prepared in advance. Because of the inversion that takes place, invert sugar is very stable and lasts a while. To make the light version on brew day, I start simmering during the sparge, and then add it during the last 20 minutes of the boil. As another safeguard against crystallization, stir in a small amount of glucose or corn syrup.
Refined sugar is ninety-nine percent pure sucrose, a simple carbohydrate. Just dissolve the sugar in the water, add citric acid, and simmer for anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours. You will want to simmer at a low heat and stir frequently to prevent scorching.

The key they said in these last few steps was to not burn the sugar. That's why they resorted to using vacuums and low temp boiling. This I think was the 1935 version of a freeze dryer. Literally, a freeze dryer would do this process way more efficiently. Some interesting grainy old pictures from the actual factories, too. I picked out 10 pounds of beets for a batch of sugar.
For greater accuracy, measure ingredients by weight on a kitchen scale. Using volume measurements won't cause major issue, but you'll end up with about ⅞ the amount of sugar. We've driven through and stopped for lunch during road trips to North Carolina, but we've never spent any real time there before. I'm so glad it's only less than 4 hours away, making it a great place to visit for the weekend.
To process the sugar down, I broke small pieces about the size of a fingertip out of the trays. Because the trays were aluminum, I could just flex the bottom and it broke up well on its own. One of the trays was accidentally filled much thicker with molasses than the other three, and was also seeded with sugar. It had the interesting effect of allowing sugar to crystallize below the top crust, as shown in the first picture. Next year, I'll experiment with seeing how depth of the molasses matters when the sugar is forming.
